A man was passing through a bush path and suddenly, he stopped at the sight of a large elephant herd. He was amazed at how the huge creatures were being held by only a tiny rope tied to their front legs. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could at anytime, break away easily from their bonds but for some reason, they haven’t.
He saw their trainer seated nearby and walked up to him. He asked him why the animals just stood there, tied to different trees with a tiny in which they can easily break free and yet, they made no attempt to get away.
“Well,” trainer said
“When they were very young we use the same size of rope to tie them and at that age, it was strong enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe that they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”
The man was thrilled the more. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they can’t, they were stuck right where they were.
Extra:
Just like the elephants, most people have been trapped in one life struggle or another simply because they believe that they cannot win – maybe they have never tried breaking free or have failed at it once before.
The elephants may not be smart enough to know that they can break free from the small rope, but you are. You have all it takes to succeed and you will only if you decide to break off from your tiny rope.
Your ‘tiny rope’ could be fear, lack of money, popularity, etcetera – all you need to do is to believe in yourself and believe that you can break free from any condition. Always remember that failure is only a part of learning and not the end of the journey; we should always try and keep trying.
Never give up!
